Hi, I have a door jam that I am trying to remove about four layers of paint from. I have been using my bell sander, but the sanding belt quickly clogs up. I have tried scraping the paint with no luck. I even bought a water-based paint striper. It works only if you can layer it up thick, which i can't on a door frame. Any suggestions. Thanks Stan
It sounds like you're stuck with just lots of elbow grease. May I suggest replacing the whole door jamb?
Dont know if they are available to you but we use heat guns to heat up the paint and scrape it off wood. A blow torch would do the same job just dont leave the torch on one area too long otherwise the wood darkens move it along as soon as the paint starts to bubble and scrape as you go. Dont allow the paint to cool.
Here's a link to a great article in removing paint and garnish. http://www.acehardware.com/sm-removing-old-paint-and-varnish--bg-1284545.html
